Summer Mission 2024

Monday, August 5, 2024
We began our conference in Kakuma last Monday at the Solid Rock Church in town. This was our fourth conference here and we had a great turnout for this event. We had over 130 pastors and church leaders gathered here as we studied through 1st and 2nd Peter, most of them from the refugee camps in Kakuma.

As a result, we had pastors from many different countries, including Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and South Sudan. All of the pastors I spoke to who live in the camps were incredibly effusive in their thanks to API for bringing solid, biblical training to them year after year. Several of them spoke of how this training has really transformed their preaching and their churches in the camps and begged us to continue as this was the best biblical teaching they have received.

In addition to Tim Bourgeois and myself, we had Boniface Lokuruka as part of our teaching team again.

We want to thank the Evangelical Reformed Church of Tacoma for providing a commentary on the book of Romans for these pastors, the Rafiki Foundation who provided Bibles for them, and Ekklesia Afrika who donated other book resources.

As part of our famine relief effort, we gave every attendee some food to take home to their families. The U.N. is supposed to provide food for the refugees, but in reality, hunger is everpresent in the camps. George Lokwawi (red shirt and smiling) is the API Famine Relief Director in Turkana and he really enjoys his work!

A big thank you as well to those of you who gave to our Famine Relief fund and to those who donated to our pastoral development fund for this summer mission!  We greatly value your partnership in the gospel with API as do your African brothers and sisters!
