Attendees4
It is Saturday evening and half the team traveled back to Lodwar while the other half of us traveled back to Nairobi. We finished the conference in Churo on Friday where we had 75 pastors and church leaders in attendance. We were expecting around 200, but our host, Musa Maklab, had a serious motorcycle accident just 2 days before the conference, and he didn't have anyone to step up and mobilize the pastors as he has done in the past. Thankfully Musa is on the mend with an arm broken in sixteen places, a less severe broken leg, and several facial stitches. We also didn't know the conference began just as children were returning to school and many pastors were taking them back.

Most of the pastors and leaders were from the AIC (African Inland Church) but there were several from other denominations as well, and they were all very engaged in each session. We were thanked many times for coming so far to be with them and for the teachings. There were also repeated requests to establish a bible school in Churo.

We are grateful to Ekklesia Afrika and Crossway for providing Global Study Bibles for our pastors and leaders. The bibles are a great resource for them and their ministry.

Additionally we provided each of the pastors and leaders maize, beans, rice, cooking oil and salt to take home with them to their families from our Famine Relief fund.
Rescuegirls
During the week, we visited the girls Rescue Home established by Musa Maklab in the village of Amaya. There are about 40 young girls, ages 6 to 19 who have been brought there or somehow made their way there to escape FGM and being married off to older men as a second or third wife. Female circumcision and child brides are a fixture in this culture and the church is actively resisting this evil in their communities. So many of their stories are simply heartbreaking. One young girl told of being informed that she would undergo FGM and be married off on the weekend, and so her mother told her to say nothing, go to school that Monday, and not come home. She did just that and found her way after a few days to this refuge. Musa himself has been threatened with death and violence many times by the men in the community, but has told them, "You can beat me or even kill me, but you will not touch these girls!"  The men in his church have stood by him faithfully as these threats are ongoing. Please pray for Musa and the Rescue Home as they need protection and support.
Waterfilter1
At the Rescue Home, we found that the water from their bore hole was extremely high in calcium which was producing many heath issues related to kidney function and they were getting water from the river now to drink. Thanks to Surfing Servants we provided them with water filters so they could have clean water to drink. In the picture above you can clearly see the river water we are filtering.

We also provided these water filters to the pastors at the conference.

We also gave the Rescue Home food provided through the Famine Relief fund.

The German missionary we met last year, who established a mission about 40 kilometers away came by when he heard we were there and sat in on one session. He has yet to drill a bore hole and didn't have any way of filtering the water he and his family had for drinking so we provided him with a bucket filter of his own.

We've had a few challenges along the way including frequent power outages, washed out roads, and the occasional scorpion!
